Everything Still Works

4 — Forty Parts

A portable cassette player taken apart — forty components suspended in one vertical column, each lit like jewellery.

Motor, capstan, flywheel, belts, springs, gears, board, headphone yoke, battery door, both shells. The exploded view is the oldest proof in engineering: this is what was inside, and all of it was necessary. Even diffuse light, no beam, no drama.
